This is a digital drawing of young Princess Zelda and young Link sitting beside one another in the garden of Hyrule Castle at night time.
I drew this piece mainly as a fan service for a great game, and for my fellow Legend of Zelda fans!
Detail:
This drawing is inspired by a selection of official screenshots and concept art from the original N64 game as released by Nintendo, as well as my recent playthrough of Master Quest. Link and Zelda are entirely based on official concept art, as produced by Nintendo's talented artists, for Ocarina of Time. It is my fourth attempt at producing a piece of digital art.
In my opinion the background colour is a little darker than I expected it would turn out, but I think I have captured the characters fairly well!
Here is a sample of the original character sketch and colour:
It took several days to fully draw, colour and complete to an acceptable standard, making it my most in depth piece yet. I am on the whole, happy with the end result!
Materials and Equipment:
Wacom Intuos 4 graphics tablet, and Sketchbookpro 2010.
Haha, cheers! the Zelda and Link drawings are both based on official Nintendo artwork for Ocarina of Time, whereas the background is fully hand drawn by myself.
I was walking across Hyrule Castle field recently during my N64 playthrough of the game, and thought; wouldn't it be great to have a drawing based around the castle! And so this piece came to be!
It took a while to get right, and I must have made a tonne of alterations by the end of it, but I am more than happy with the final result on the whole. I love drawing digital art but each piece is a real time sink, haha!
Know what you mean. I'm just getting to grips with digital art myself and while its very versatile it's a far steeper learning curve than I anticipated. Currently working on a Anime styled Sith Lord which is providing its own set of headaches. Love your work though, really good. Keep it up!
Thanks man, hopefully i'll have some more done soon ready to share!
I agree with the difficulty of it all. The neck ache is what gets me the most! having to constantly lean forward whilst drawing in order to reach the keyboard because of the size of my graphics tablet is a killer. It does take ages to draw anything digitally, but if you put enough time into making a piece your own then the results can look spectacular!
I thoroughly look forward to seeing your Sith Lord drawing, it's been ages since i've seen a Star Wars piece of any kind! Good luck with the creation process!
